OSHA 10-Hour Safety Class for Residential Construction


WHEN:  TBD
Includes OSHA course completion card.
As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, the HBACA is proud to participate in the OSHA Outreach 10-Hour Training Program for Construction. Scott Foster of Professional Builder Training gives attendees 10 hours of safety instruction geared specifically toward the home building business. Topics include fall protection, personal protective equipment, scaffolding, trench and excavation safety, electrical safety, stairs and ladders and more. At the course conclusion, students will receive a card from OSHA recognizing their successful completion of the program.  A must for field staff. This class was recently updated to conform with OSHA’s new revised Construction Outreach Program requirements.

ADOSH Excavation Safety


WHEN:  TBD
The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) provides this Excavation Safety Awareness Class.  The class is provided to assist employers and employees who dig and/or perform work in and around trench/excavations expand their knowledge of the OSHA Construction Standards for Excavations (29 CFR 1926 Subpart P).  Trench collapses have claimed lives in Arizona.  Unsafe trenching and excavation jobsites are an ADOSH compliance emphasis.  Under Arizona Revised Statute 23-403, it is the employer’s duty to provide a safe jobsite for employees. The OSHA excavation standards are the minimum requirements for providing a safe trench/excavation jobsite.  It is your responsibility to understand and follow these safety standards. Jenny Mandeville, ADOSH Trainer, teaches the course.

ADOSH Construction Site Safety Management

Does your company have a comprehensive written safety plan that complies with OSHA guidelines? Do you identify and discuss safety and hazard recognition specific to your jobsites and your scopes of work during regularly conducted training sessions? Have you successfully established a “safety culture” at your organization? Are your workers as safe as they could be? If the answer to any of these questions is no, or if you feel the need for assistance with these areas of safety, this class will guide your path. Jenny Mandeville, ADOSH Training Officer, will cover all the bases in this broad look at construction safety management for residential construction.

ADOSH Ergonomics for Construction


WHEN:  TBD
Attendees will learn ways to spot unsafe lifting practices and methods that can be used to circumvent musculoskeletal injuries.  Also attendees will learn more about the impact that musculoskeletal injuries play with regards to lost time in the workplace.  Anatomy of the back and supporting system will also be discussed in general. Injuries to hands, arms and shoulders from repetitious tool use will be discussed.  As a result of successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:  Identify unsafe lifting practices, demonstrate proper lifting techniques, identify remedies to unsafe practices, identify key components of the back's anatomy, discuss more about Ergonomic issues related to the back, arms, hands, shoulders, learn about the effective use of design in the work place and tools that can counteract musculoskeletal injuries, and identify some predisposing factors to back injuries.  Topics include: Improper lifting technique, proper lifting technique, back anatomy, scope of back injury problems in the workplace, safety devices that may help, alternate work practices, ergonomic issues concerning tool use and repetitive motion.

ADOSH Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)


 WHEN:  TBD
The course is designed to help students understand the various types of PPE  available and the requirements for them in the workplace. They will also gain knowledge about PPE assessment requirements, PPE care and maintenance, and injury awareness. Various forms of PPE will be discussed, including head, hand, eye, respiratory, and foot protection. As a result of successfully completing this course, the student will be able to: describe a PPE hazard assessment, list at least 4 different type of PPE available, understand potential injury outcomes when PPE is not properly used, discuss care and maintenance practices for PPE equipment, understand when PPE would be required, and define “exposure”.  Topics include: Head Protection, Foot Protection, Eye Protection, Hand Protection, Respiratory Protection, PPE Assessment, Training Requirements, and Inspection Requirements.  Jenny Mandeville, ADOSH Trainer, teaches the course.

ADOSH Respiratory Protection

Are your workers routinely exposed to concrete dust, fumes, gases, vapors or particulates? Is chronic silicosis a concern in your trade? Do you know the requirements for providing respiratory protection to your workers? Do you know which types of respiratory masks are available and the proper ways to use them? Melissa Drate, ADOSH Industrial Hygiene Training Officer, will cover these topics and others related to the state-of-the-art for respiratory protection.

Dust Control Basic Training


WHEN:  TBD
RULE 310 BASIC SITE SUPERINTENDENT - Projects less than 5 acres:
State law requires that as of December 31, 2008, Site Superintendents or other designated representatives of the permit holder for projects under 5 acres must complete the Basic Class and be present when dust generating operations occur on site. In addition, Water Truck and Water Pull Drivers regardless of site size must also complete the Basic Class.

Session Objective:  Scott Foster of Professional Builder Training gives participants an overview of Maricopa County Rule 310 and 310.01 fugitive dust requirements.  It will qualify participants to perform the duties required under Maricopa County Rule 310 section 410.01.  Participants will learn enforcement, penalty policies and strategies as well as stabilization test requirements for Maricopa County.  Upon completion of the class, participants are eligible to receive their MCAQD Photo ID card.

Comprehensive Dust Compliance Class

The Comprehensive Rule 310 Dust Compliance class is required by the Maricopa County Air Quality Department for Dust Coordinators on construction sites with dust permits reflecting an area of 5 acres or more. During this 6-hour course, Scott Foster of Professional Builder Training addresses: 

  • History of Dust Compliance
  • “5% Plan”
  • Recordkeeping Requirements
  • Test Methods
  • Control Measure Requirements 

Upon completion of the class, participants are eligible to receive their MCAQD Photo ID card.
