At the July 10 General Membership meeting, HBACA Chairman Charlie Enochs presented Arizona Science Center President & CEO Chevy Humphrey with a check for $50,000 for an update of the “Many Hands Make a Home Exhibit.
Nearly 10 years ago, Home Builders Care, the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association partnered with the Arizona Science Center to produce this exhibit which is seen by over 500,000 visitors annually, many of these school children. The exhibit has been updated a few times over the years, but the Science Center and the Association felt that in order to keep the exhibit relevant it was necessary to entirely revamp it by incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) into it.
STEM is a nationwide, revolutionary new program that integrates the teaching of science and mathematics with technology and engineering. For years these subjects have been taught separately and most of the time independent from each other. By adopting the STEM philosophy, these subjects all play an integral part of teaching the whole. The incorporation of STEM into the exhibit will give children of all ages the opportunity to begin exploring the role that science, technology, engineering and mathematics play in building a home. The proceeds from Home Builders Care’s 2014 Builders Uncorked event were dedicated to this project.
The HBACA and Home Builders Care are pleased to have this longstanding partnership with the Arizona Science Center, and we are thrilled to be presenting them with a check for $50,000.
