15th Annual Southwest Builders Show – Celebrating the Best in the West!

With a sold out show floor, nearly 1,000 attendees, and excitement in the air of a great year for home building in the Valley, the HBACA’s Southwest Builders Show celebrated its 15th Anniversary in style – cowboy style that is! Presenting the theme “Best in the West” the HBACA’s Associate members wholly embraced the western theme creating a full day of fun, education and business development for the builders, trade contractors, suppliers and service providers who comprise central Arizona’s home building community.
Kicking off the day was the Show’s premier networking event, the Purchasing Agents, Suppliers and Subcontractors (P.A.S.S.) Breakfast. The keynote speaker, Toby Morrison, National Sales Manager and Senior Director of Insights at Metrostudy, engaged the 180 HBACA Builder “table hosts” and Associate members with an informative program titled, “Know the Consumer, Capture the Homebuyer.”
Following the Breakfast, attendees made their way to two locations – the show floor, or a seminar. The seminar, “Home Buyer Insights – Getting Inside the Minds of Home Buyers,” led by Tim Costello, President & CEO of The BDX (Builder Homesite & Move), gave attendees a chance to learn about the latest home buyer research and how it impacts messaging. Meanwhile, he show floor provided builders and associates with the opportunity to discover latest innovations in products and services available to the home building community.
Sponsored by APS Energy Star Homes Program, the Forecast Luncheon was the highlight of the day. Drawing 530 attendees, the 2016 Housing Forecast featured a pair of the industry’s most prominent real estate consultants: Tim Sullivan, Practice Leader for Meyers Research LLC, a Kennedy Wilson Company and Jim Belfiore, President of Belfiore Real Estate Consulting. Also joining the panel this year was Chris Camacho, President & CEO of Greater Phoenix Economic Council. The three provided attendees with a wealth of information to help builders and trades plan for and succeed in 2016.
The networking continued throughout the afternoon with the Builders Invitational Putting Challenge, and the annual Putting Contest sponsored by Interior Logic, Courtesy Chevrolet, Creative Environments and U.S. Grass and Greens. Although no one won the Chevy truck, Rod Cullum from Cullum Homes did come close to making the hole in one; and Dave Piper from Taylor Morrison earned bragging rights for the year as the Best Builder Putter!
Taking home the $2,500 Show Prize was Melanie Allen from CalAtlantic Homes.
Capping off the day was “Final PhAZ,” the 2nd annual VIP reception for Builders, Exhibitors and Sponsors, taking place on “The Slab,” the Show’s gathering space adjacent to the putting green. Sponsored by Arizona Wholesale and Southwest Gas, Final PhAZ included drinks, and music by singer/guitarist Vinnie Dijon, providing attendees with the perfect setting to extend the networking and business development into the afternoon.
