Thank you HBACA Members for a Successful 17th Event!

With 90 exhibitors and an estimated 1,000 attendees including 240 builders from 50 diverse companies, the HBACA’s 17th Annual Southwest Builders Show was one of the strongest in recent history. This year’s theme “There’s No Place Like a New Home” celebrated all that is new in residential construction. Throughout the hall exhibitors rolled out their most advanced products and services. In the center of it all was the HBACA Mini-Brick Grand Prix raceway where show goers were invited to build and race cars made from mini-bricks! The New Home theme and atmosphere of friendly competition set the tone for a fun day of business development and education for the builders, trade contractors, suppliers and service providers who comprise central Arizona’s home building community.

The expo opened with the Purchasing Agents, Suppliers and Subcontractors (P.A.S.S.) Breakfast sponsored by Owens Corning, offering attendees one of the day’s premier channels for relationship building. Nearly 150 HBACA Associate members joined the more than 60 builders serving as table hosts. In addition to time for visiting, participants were treated to an insightful program by Dr. Diane Hamilton on “Embracing Multiple Generations in the Workplace”.

Following breakfast, attendees made their way around the show floor, affording builders an opportunity to explore the latest innovations for residential construction, and providing exhibitors with a platform to connect with current and potential clients.

The Forecast Luncheon sponsored by APS was once again a highlight of the day drawing 500+ attendees. Led by economic analyst Elliott D. Pollack, the 2018 Housing Forecast featured a panel of builders including Kim Oium from D.R. Horton, Alan Jones from Lennar, Rob McGibney from KB Home and Andy Warren from Maracay Homes.  This format equipped attendees with an optimistic yet realistic outlook of what builders see coming through the pipeline in 2018.  Kicking off the luncheon was HBACA Board Member Tom Kirk from Camelot Homes.

The show floor came alive again in the afternoon as attendees gathered in the center of the hall to assemble and race pinewood derby style cars in the 2nd Annual HBACA Mini-Brick Grand Prix sponsored by ProTex The PT Xperts. Jesse Wolfe from AArrow Sign Spinners won first place, with Edward Vidales from Safeguard Security coming in second, and Tammy Burns from Maracay Homes taking third.

Throughout the afternoon digital caricature artist Jeremy Drysdale sketched pictures for attendees at “The Slab” – SWBS’ official gathering space.  This is also the area where attendees dropped off their entries for the “There’s No Place Like a New Home” Sweepstakes sponsored by Samsung.  Taking home the $2,500 Show Prize was Chris Huynh from Meritage Homes.  Capping off the day was “Final PhAZ”, the VIP reception for builders, exhibitors and sponsors presented by Southwest Gas and Arizona Wholesale.

The HBACA would like to thank all attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, advertisers and speakers for making our 2017 show the biggest since 2008!
