Governor Ducey Officially Opens Employment Center at Lewis Prison in Buckeye

On August 14, 2017, Governor Ducey officially opened the Employment Center at the Lewis Prison in Buckeye. The Employment Center provides the opportunity for one hundred inmates to become employment ready during the last forty-five to sixty days of incarceration.  The goal is for each inmate to have a job waiting for them upon release and ultimately to avoid coming back to prison. 

 

For the past several months, the HBACA has partnered with the Department of Corrections to host job fairs at prisons throughout the State and for the past several months at the Employment Center. Through our partnership over two hundred former inmates have been hired into the residential construction industry over the course of the past year and half. 

 

While at the employment center, the inmates are provided assistance with preparing resumes, searching job postings, and conducting mock interviews. There are even opportunities for construction training. For more information, see the news coverage below.
