To make sure your remodeling business stays competitive, the HBACA works with NAHB and NAHB Remodelers to provide classes from time to time either at the HBACA or through other NAHB affiliates.

What is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS)?
The Certified Aging-in-Place (CAPS) designation program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place. The NAHB Remodelers Council, in collaboration with the AARP, NAHB Research Center, and NAHB Seniors Housing Council, developed this program to provide comprehensive, practical, market-specific information about working with older and maturing adults to remodel their homes for aging-in-place.

The three-part program includes:
Marketing & Communications Strategies for Aging & Accessibility (CAPS I)

Identifying opportunities and developing the skills to interact with 50+ customers can help you grow your business dramatically. Learn best practices in communicating and interacting with this exciting and evolving population, and take advantage of one of the fastest growing market segments in remodeling and related industries.

Design/Build Solutions for Aging & Accessibility (CAPS II)
This Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) course will help you understand the guidelines and requirements of accessibility, the importance of doing an assessment with input from occupational and physical therapists as well as qualified health care professionals, and the significance of good design in making modifications that can transform a house into a safe, attractive, and comfortable home for life.

Business Management for Building Professionals
This course will give you a solid foundation in those best business practices so valuable to smaller businesses: planning, organizing, staffing/directing and controlling. By using case studies and sample forms, your instructor gives you practical and applicable tools for management success.

Are you ready to join the elite ranks of the nation’s top builders? The Certified Graduate BuilderTM (CGB) designation is your sign to clients and colleagues that you are a member of this respected group of professionals. The Builder Assessment Review (BAR) is your first step toward obtaining this prestigious designation. This 3-hour, 120-question multiple choice assessment measures your knowledge in the four core areas of building business management:
  1. Building Technology
  2. Business & Finance
  3. Project Management
  4. Sales & Marketing
Your results will show you the areas where your knowledge is strongest, where it is weakest, and will determine the courses required for you to obtain your CGB. Safety is the Number One Priority on Any Construction Site

As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, the HBACA is proud to participate in the OSHA Outreach 10-Hour Training Program for Construction. Ten hours of safety instruction is geared specifically toward the home building business. Topics include fall protection, personal protective equipment, scaffolding, trench and excavation safety, electrical safety, stairs and ladders and more. At the course conclusion, students will receive a card from OSHA recognizing their successful completion of the program. A must for field staff. This class conforms with OSHA’s revised Construction Outreach Program requirements. Includes OSHA course completion card.
